I really enjoyed this short novel. It is a beautiful book, written with great care and precision. The language is simple on the surface but carries deep feeling beneath it. Carys Davies tells her story without excess, and that restraint gives it strength.

The novel is surprising in quiet ways. It made ne think about isolation, language, and what it means to understand another person. Nothing is overstated, yet everything feels necessary. In that sense it reminded a bit of Claire Keegan. The landscape and the inner lives of the characters are rendered with clarity and weight.

This book stayed with me long after I’d finished it. It is thoughtful, subtle, and quietly powerful. It proves that a story does not need to be loud to be profound.
